Vanina Sucharitkul
Vanina Sucharitkul specialises in international arbitration and has experience advising local and international clients on a diverse range of cross-border disputes involving commercial contracts, investigations and anti-corruption, joint ventures, insurance and reinsurance, construction and infrastructure projects, environmental contamination and investment treaty arbitration in Paris, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. She has experience acting as counsel and advocate in arbitrations across multiple jurisdictions under the auspices of institutions including, amongst others, ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, AAA, and TAI. She has served as Thailand's member to the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce since July 2012 and is currently sitting as arbitrator. Vanina is also a lecturer in the LL.M. program on the subject of international commercial and investment arbitration at L'Universite Paris Descartes (Paris V) in Paris.
Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills between 2007-2017, Vanina developed her career as a litigation and arbitration associate at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco, practicing a range of US commercial litigation matters including securities, antitrust, trademark, and class action. She also has experience in international arbitration on issues of expropriation and public international law.
Vanina completed her undergraduate studies at University of California at Berkeley and her Juris Doctor at University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on the backlash against investment treaty arbitration and investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) reform at the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2).
A holder of three nationalities, Vanina speaks English, Thai, and French. She is a member of the California Bar, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch and Thailand Branch Executive Committee), and ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR (Hong Kong and Thailand Arbitration Committee), a fellow at the International Dispute Resolution Academy and regularly and speaks at conferences.
