Stephan Smoktunowicz is a professional support lawyer at Gowling WLG's London offices. He has also worked as a transactional lawyer for several international law firms and as in-house counsel for a number of global financial institutions.
He has advised banks, financial institutions, corporates, business start-ups, developers, private equity houses, individuals, pension trustees and other lawyers on a wide range of banking and finance related issues. His experience includes acquisition finance, real estate, social housing and development finance, global loans, investment grade lending, private equity funding, asset based lending (including equipment finance, inventory finance and receivables finance), restructurings, securitisations and trade finance. Much of his experience has an international flavour, having worked on transactions in over 30 jurisdictions.
Stephan is passionate about the difference that continued learning and education can make. He has written and delivered presentations , training sessions and workshops on a variety of banking and insolvency law related topics to both lawyers and non-lawyers alike, drawing on his wide industry experience to balance technical understanding with an awareness of the wider commercial considerations that are important in practice. He is also a keen writer and has written numerous briefing articles on both banking and insolvency matters.
In his spare time, Stephan is also a conductor.
