Biography

Dr. Peter Ellis is ranked by the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners as a leading junior in clinical negligence and personal injury at the London Bar: “...impresses sources with his medical know-how, approachability and depth of knowledge beyond that of his contemporaries... you win cases with him because he helps everyone through the evidence calmly and effectively and makes over-aggressive hired guns seem foolish...".

His principal areas of expertise are complex clinical negligence and personal injury cases, including product liability. He is also in demand for his expertise in relation to coroners’ inquests and related fatal accident litigation. He acts for both claimants and defendants.

Dr Ellis practised as a hospital doctor and as a solicitor specialising in healthcare and product liability litigation at DAC Beachcroft before transferring to the Bar. He has been an Assistant Deputy Coroner in London since 2000, and is a qualified mediator. He is the author and assistant editor of a number of leading medico-legal textbooks, including the clinical negligence chapter in Butterworths’ Personal Injury Litigation Service. He is a regular chairman and speaker at medico-legal conferences, for both lawyers and healthcare professionals.
