1 Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Amendment Regulations 2008 and shall come into force on 7th April 2008.

2Amendment of the Social Security (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations 1985

(1)    Part I of Schedule 1 to the Social Security (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations 1985 (list of prescribed diseases and the occupations for which they are prescribed), is amended as follows.

(2)    After the entry relating to prescribed disease D12 add the following entry—

“D13 Primary carcinoma of the nasopharynx.Exposure to wood dust in the course of the processing of wood or the manufacture or repair of wood products, for a period or periods which amount in aggregate to at least 10 years.”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Social Security (Industrial Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations 1985 (SI 1985/967) which prescribe diseases for which industrial injuries benefit is payable.

Regulation 2 adds the disease nasopharyngeal cancer as it relates to occupations involving working with wood, to the list of prescribed diseases.

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as it has no impact on the costs of business, charities or voluntary bodies.
