The Case

On an application for a review of a minimum term under to the Criminal Justice Act 2003, a minimum term of 13 years, less the period spent in custody on remand was set in respect of an offender who had participated in the murder of the victim who was either beaten or stoned to death near a railway line and where his body was subsequently put into the boot of a car and sight alight. The offence did not involve any of the factors that he had identified in his practice direction as likely to call for a sentence more severe than the norm.
