Sentence Discretionary life sentence. In the instant case, in the light of the defendant's inability to control his sexual urges, the fact that he had subjected the complainant to a sexual and brutal attack, meant that the judge had been entitled to impose sentences of life imprisonment, and fix his notional determinate term at ten years, on two counts of attempted rape.
