Sentence - Imprisonment - Length of sentence - Trafficking into and within United Kingdom for sexual exploitation - Deterrence - Whether sentence manifestly excessive or wrong in principle - , ss 57, 58.
In the instant case, where the defendant had been involved in the trafficking of the 15-year-old Lithuanian girl who had been tricked into coming to the United Kingdom and was subsequently sold by the defendant a number of times, leading her to being raped and forced to work in brothels as a prostitute, the total sentence of 18years on conviction for trafficking into and within the United Kingdom, contrary to ss57 and 58 of the was appropriately severe. Deterrence to others who took part in such activities was a highly material consideration.
