Nicholas Smith

Nick now practices as a family business consultant advising family owned businesses on a wide variety of family business governance, succession planning and family dynamics issues. He holds the Advanced Certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Family Business Management and the past chairman of the International Centre for Families in Business. In addition to consulting he regularly provides training for family businesses and their professional advisors. Nick is the author of Advising the Family Owned Business (Lexis 2017) and writes on family business topics both for the professional and lay audience. Before focussing on family business consultancy Nick set up and led one of the few dedicated family business teams in a top 100 law firm. He previously practised as a corporate lawyer focussing on mid-market acquisitions and mergers and is a past chairman of the Mergers and Acquisition Special Interest Group of the Association of European Lawyers.
