Mr Sharad Abhyankar

Practising for more than 26 years, Sharad has focused his expertise on advising Indian and international clients on strategic mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, capital market transactions, financing transactions, domestic and cross-border foreign collaborations and joint ventures, foreign exchange and securities law related matters. He has led many complex legal due diligence assignments of Indian corporate Groups for compliance check, health check, particularly focussed on Promoter Groups, Related Party Transactions; tunnelling schemes by promoters and Key Managerial Personnel and insider trading. Sharad is a member of the Advisory Committee and Drafting Committee of the National Stock Exchange Centre for Excellence in Corporate Governance. He has also been involved in facilitating framing policies and regulations for multiple government agencies, including the State Education Board in Maharashtra, Indian Department of Telecommunications and Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) - the Telecom Regulator in Republic of South Africa. Further, he led the project of developing a Model Law for Shops & Establishments in association with Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has served as an Independent Director on some of the eminent listed and unlisted Indian companies. Additionally, he has led the preparation of compliance manuals on Indian federal and state laws for Indian Corporate Groups with international operations. Sharad was invited to be a Jury by BusinessWorld for its Investment Banking Awards 2012. He has also been a panel speaker on the CNBC Series 'Companies Act!', 'The Primer on Companies Act, 2013' by Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and 'Amicus Curiae' on ET Now. Further, he has authored several articles on a variety of legal topics in both, Indian and International journals and is often invited as a speaker/ panellist at a number of professional seminars.
