Julia Dias, KC

Julia Dias was awarded a scholarship to Trinity Hall, Cambridge in 1978, graduating in 1981 with a triple first in law. She joined 7KBW in 1985 as their first female tenant and built up a formidable reputation as a leading commercial junior before taking a career break in 1998, subsequently working part-time in the insurance litigation group of City solicitors, Eversheds. She returned to private practice in April 2003 and took silk in 2008.
Julia’s principal specialisms are arbitration, shipping, insurance/reinsurance and professional negligence (mainly insurance brokers and solicitors). She also has wide experience of commercial disputes generally and over the years has built up considerable expertise in many other areas of commercial law such as agency, conflicts of laws, guarantees and letters of credit, injunctions, international trade, jurisdiction issues, sale of goods and shipbuilding. She has been instructed in construction and oil and gas disputes.

Julia is a member of the Gibraltar Bar, to which she was called in 1994.

Julia acts as an arbitrator and is happy to accept appointments both in the UK and abroad. She has successfully mediated in her field of expertise.

Julia is conversationally fluent in French and has a working knowledge of Russian and Italian.

Julia was elected a Governing Bencher of the Inner Temple in July 2012 and appointed Chairman of the Inn's Finance Committee in 2017. She also serves on the Inn’s Executive Committee. She has served as a Disciplinary Tribunal Chairman for the Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service since 2009.
