Ryland is a dual qualified Barrister and Solicitor-Advocate with many years of experience in the construction industry. He has worked as legal adviser on some of the largest construction projects in the world and currently focusses on dispute resolution and litigation in the UK.
An experienced advocate and adviser acting on a wide variety of construction, rail, civil engineering and defence projects, involving investigation, management and successful resolution of contractual and commercial disputes. Ryland has represented many high profile companies and was instructed in a series of successful proceedings in South East Asia, including a $190million scope change dispute and a $60million design and disruption arbitration involving world renowned rail experts.
As a highly experienced representative in all forms of dispute resolution, Ryland regularly acts in arbitration and mediation and has taken conduct of well over 100 adjudications. He also represents clients in Court and often appears in the Royal Courts of Justice. His work includes contractual and common law advice, drafting of claims, counterclaims and defences and is most commonly instructed to provide commercial, strategic advice throughout the lifecycle of projects, usually starting work before projects begin at inception and sometimes long after they are complete.
Ryland also regularly lectures in the UK and abroad on a range of construction law subjects, such as the standard form construction contracts including the JCT, NEC and others, and to organisations such as the RICS, FMB, private clients, local authorities, construction companies of all sizes, consultancies, architects, banks and other lawyers.
