Biography

Robert is a Professor of Legal Education and Practice at the University of Westminster Law School.

He joined the school in 1992 and his teaching responsibilities cover the Legal Practice Course, the Graduate Diploma in Law and The Solicitors Exempting undergraduate degree. His main areas of expertise in law cover Land Law Property Law and Practice as well as Wills Probate and Administration.

In addition to his teaching commitments, his professional experience includes being a partner and consultant solicitor with Russell Jones & Walker Solicitors (now Slater & Gordon) in commercial and residential conveyancing, wills trusts and probate. Previously he was an equity partner covering conveyancing and Probate with Cecil Altman & Co. Solicitors in North London.

Robert is presently a Judge of the First tier Tribunal (Property Chamber; Land Registration) and an Appointed Legal Practice Course assessor for the Law Society having been involved in over 30 assessment visits to LPC providers since 1992. He was until recently a Chief External Examiner for Property Law and Practice for the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He is currently the national external examiner for conveyancing for the Council for Licensed Conveyancers.

Robert is widely published, having co-authored A Practical Approach to Conveyancing (OUP), A Practical Approach to Commercial Conveyancing (OUP), the Property Law Handbook (OUP) and co-authors Divisions I and IP of Butterworths Property Law Service.
