Kirsten Thompson joined CMS as a trainee in 2006 and joined the pensions department on qualification in 2008. Kirsten advises trustee and employer clients in relation to pension schemes. She advises on general pensions issues, litigation matters, Ombudsman investigations and the pensions aspects of corporate transactions. She is an associate member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers (APL) and a speaker on the APL's beginners' course.

Recent experience:

  • providing advice to one of the UK's largest employers on the impact of the RPI/CPI changes for one of its DB pension arrangements, particularly in relation to members with public sector mirror benefits, including advising on a Court application on interpretation of the scheme rules
  • ongoing advice to trustees of an industry-wide pension scheme, including dealing with issues relating to protected persons requirements
  • advising the trustees of a 'top-up' pension scheme on its merger into the employer's main pension arrangement and the subsequent wind-up of the former top-up arrangement
  • acting for an insurance company in relation to scheme buy-out and buy-in arrangements
