Senior Associate, Taylor Wessing

Biography

Joanna is a Senior Associate in Taylor Wessing’s Intellectual Property department who specialises in trade mark portfolio management, trade mark disputes, domain name disputes and designs.

Before joining Taylor Wessing, Joanna spent 5½ years running Linklaters' representative office in Alicante, building up close contacts with OHIM officials and an in-depth knowledge of CTM law, practice and procedure.

As a result, Joanna has particular expertise in CTM work, including brand clearance, filing strategy, oppositions, cancellations, and appeals before OHIM and the General Court in Luxembourg (where she successfully defended the inherent registrability of the mark "UltraPlus" for Tuperware in 2002, Case T-360/00, and John Deere’s green & yellow colour registration for agricultural machinery from invalidity on absolute and relative grounds in 2009, Case T-137/08). Her expertise includes co-ordinating complex multi-jurisdictional proceedings.

Joanna advises well-known brand owners on their trade mark portfolios; and she has represented brand owners in a variety of sectors, including retail clothing, financial services, DIY, medical devices, office supplies and herbal remedies in numerous proceedings before the UKIPO and OHIM, with a high success rate.

She is bilingual in Spanish and has a good working knowledge of French.

She is the author of the practice note on ‘Community Trade Marks – OHIM Registration Procedure + Flowchart’ in LexisPSL IP & IT.
