James trained with Clarke Willmott in Taunton and qualified as a solicitor in 1998 within their agriculture property team. After five years with Clarke Willmott, James relocated to Sussex and worked as a company solicitor for a Sussex-based property development and investment company. In 2010, James joined Thomas Eggar (now part of Irwin Mitchell) where he was a Senior Associate in their rural business and estate team, prior to joining Adams & Remers in 2017.
