International arbitrator, mediator and expert determiner, Hew R Dundas

Hew Dundas has spent more than 38 years in the oil & gas industry, including being Head of Legal, Company Secretary and Group Insurance Manager at Cairn Energy PLC, before becoming (in 1998) a full-time international arbitrator, mediator and expert determiner in oil & gas, energy and general commercial disputes.

He is a Chartered Arbitrator (CIArb) and a Panel Arbitrator in Scotland, England, Beijing, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, India, Slovenia and the USA, and is a member of many leading arbitral institutions. He is Honorary Vice-President of the Scottish Arbitration Centre and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Chinese European Arbitration Centre (Hamburg) and is also Presidente Honorario, Centro International de Arbitraje e Mediación (Quito).

He made significant contributions to the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010 and co-authored the definitive book on that act. He also co-authored the ICCA National Chapter on [arbitration in] Viá»?t Nam.

He is also a mediator (CEDR-accredited), serving on various mediator panels in the UK and abroad (including Beijing), and was (until 2012) a Director of Scottish Mediation Network Ltd, the umbrella body for all forms of mediation in Scotland.

He writes and publishes widely on UK and international arbitration law and related topics. He also lectures on international commercial arbitration law at Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee and other Universities in the UK and abroad.

In 2007 he served as President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and in 2011-12 as Master of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators.
