Dr. David Bisset

David Bisset has worked in Robotics for 26 years. An academic for 10 years he headed the mobile robotics research lab at the University of Kent. In 1998 he was recruited by James Dyson to start the robotics product group at Dyson Ltd. In 2000 the DC06 robot vacuum cleaner was announced but never came to market. He left Dyson in 2002 and founded iTechnic Ltd. Since then he has acted as a consultant in Robotics and Embedded Systems. and until 2009 Chaired the Domestic Group of EUROP the European Technology Platform for Robotics contributing to the Strategic Research Agenda for Robotics in Europe 2009 as a partner in the CARE Coordination Action. He is currently responsible for coordinating the writing of the Strategic Research Agenda, the Multi-Annual Roadmap and the work programme focus for robotics in Horizon 2020 for the European Robotics Association euRobotics aisbl, the private side of the Robotics Public Private Partnership, SPARC, through the RockEU and RockEU2 coordination actions. His broader expertise covers product design, embedded systems and ARM Linux, including both hardware and software systems design. He has undertaken projects for both large and small organisations, including product development in the Assistive Technology sector and technology transfer. He has been involved in two early stage start-ups. He currently chairs the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Advisory Board (RAS-SIG-AB) under the KTN/Innovate UK. He contributed extensively to the UK robotics strategy (July 2014) and was responsible for UK robotics landscape document. Most recently he co-authored the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Foresight report for Lloyds Register Foundation.
