Biography

Charles specialises in commercial and financial disputes involving both litigation and arbitration. He has particular expertise in banking, trade finance, derivatives, regulatory investigations, investment treaty claims, company and partnership disputes, and breach of warranty and professional negligence claims. He has represented clients in arbitrations under all the leading arbitral rules, including ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, GAFTA, LMAA, and ICSID, as well as under the Arbitration Act.

Charles is Head of Dispute Resolution at City firm Starr & Partners and was formerly with TLT LLP and a partner at CMS Cameron McKenna . He is a solicitor advocate, a qualified arbitrator and an accredited mediator.

Charles is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the London Court of International Arbitration and sits on the ICC UK Banking Committee. He is a regular speaker at seminars and has written numerous articles, including 'Indisputable Claims and Arbitration: a Claimant’s Guide'; 'Bilateral Investment Treaties: Protecting the Free Movement of Capital'; and 'Trade Finance and Fraud: the Warning Signs.' He is co-author of A Guide to Arbitration in Central and Eastern Europe.
