EXPLANATORY NOTE

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order)

This Order further amends the Regional Transport Planning (Wales) Order 2006 (“the 2006 Order”). The 2006 Order, was previously amended by the Regional Transport Planning (Wales) (Amendment) Order 2008 (SI 2008/1286 (W 135)) (“the 2008 Order”).

Specifically, this Order amends article 5 of the 2006 Order, amending the date upon which the Welsh Ministers require all qualifying local transport plans to be replaced, from 30 June 2009 to 31 December 2009. In the 2008 Order, the original date of 30 June 2008 was amended to 30 June 2009.

The Transport (Wales) Act 2006 introduced a new framework for transport planning in Wales. The Wales Transport Strategy sets out the overall strategic direction. The National Transport Plan and Regional Transport Plans will set out how the Strategy will be delivered. The Regional Transport Plans are required to be consistent with the National Transport Plan. The amendment is necessary due to delays in the publication of the National Transport Plan.
