1 Citation and interpretation

(1)    This Order may be cited as the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (Commencement No 6) Order 2007.

(2)    In this Order, “the Act” means the Education and Inspections Act 2006.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is the sixth commencement order made under the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (“the Act”) and contains provisions to be commenced on the 1st January 2008 and 1st April 2008.

Articles 2 and 3 commence section 5 of the Act. This section imposes a duty upon local education authorities in England to appoint a school improvement partner in relation to each school they maintain. It is commenced on 1st January 2008 in relation to special schools in the local authority areas listed in Part 1 of the Schedule, and on 1st April 2008 in respect of the special schools and primary schools listed in Parts 2A and B of the Schedule. With effect from 1st April 2008 the section will be in force in relation to all maintained schools in all local education authorities.
