This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 2nd April 2001.

In section 2(1) of the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978 (the High Court) for the words “not more than seven puisne judges” there shall be substituted the words “not more than nine puisne judges” and accordingly the Maximum Number of Judges (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 is hereby revoked.

This Order amends section 2(1) of the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978 to increase from seven to nine the maximum number of puisne judges in Her Majesty's High Court of Justice in Northern Ireland.
