This Order brings into force the Landmines Act 1998 (“the Act”) on 1st March 1999.
The Act gives effect to the provisions of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (“the Convention”), opened for signature at Ottawa on 3rd and 4th December 1997.
The United Kingdom deposited its instrument of ratification of the Convention on 31st July 1998 and will therefore become a party to it when, in accordance with Article 17 thereof, it enters into force on 1st March 1999.
