1 Citation and Commencement

This Order may be cited as the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 (Code of Conduct) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 31st July 1999.

The revised Code of Conduct laid in draft before Parliament on 30th June 1999 providing guidance to persons organising a public procession or protest meeting and regulating the conduct of persons organising or taking part in such a procession or meeting shall come into operation on 31st July 1999.

The Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 ( Code of Conduct) Order 1998 (which brought into operation the draft code laid before Parliament on 23rd February 1998) is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order)

This Order appoints 31st July 1999 as the date on which the revised Code of Conduct under section 3(2) of the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 (“the 1998 Act”), which provides guidance to persons organising a public procession or protest meeting and regulates the conduct of persons organising or taking part in such a procession or meeting, is to come into operation.

The revised Code, which is issued by the Parades Commission for Northern Ireland (“the Commission”), replaces the Code of Conduct which was brought into operation on 3rd March 1998 by the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 (Code of Conduct) Order 1998 (which is revoked by this Order).

The revised Code of Conduct is published by the Commission and copies may be obtained from the Commission at 12th Floor, Windsor House, Bedford Street, Belfast BT2 7EL.
