EXPLANATORY NOTE

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for provisions specified in the Document published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office entitled “Physical Education in the National Curriculum” to have effect for the purpose of specifying attainment targets and programmes of study for physical education in relation to schools in Wales. In the case of pupils in the first and second key stages, for the school years beginning in 1998 and 1999 those provisions apply with the amendments specified in the Schedule to the Order, but otherwise all the provisions apply. Except for one very minor modification in article 2 (the addition of the words “so far as it applies to schools in Wales”) the Order is in the terms of the draft Order on which the Secretary of State consulted in June/July 1998.

The Order, which comes into force on 31st August 1998, supersedes the provisions of the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Physical Education) Order 1995.
