The Case

Sentence Imprisonment. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, quashed sentences of 40 months' imprisonment for the rape of a child under the age of 13 years and substituted sentences of 7 years' detention in a young offenders' institution on the basis that the original sentences had been unduly lenient.
