Sentence - Imprisonment - Length of sentence - Rape of child under age of 13 - Offenders each being sentenced to 40 months' imprisonment - Attorney General referring sentences to Court of Appeal - Whether sentences unduly lenient.
Sentence Imprisonment. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, quashed sentences of 40 months' imprisonment for the rape of a child under the age of 13 years and substituted sentences of 7 years' detention in a young offenders' institution on the basis that the original sentences had been unduly lenient.
