The Case
Sentence Mandatory life sentence. Where the offender had murder the victim, a 43 year old man, after robbing and attacking him, leaving him with severe multiple injuries, there was nothing which could take the minimum term below that recommended by the trial judge and then Lord Chief Justice and notified to the offender by the Secretary of State, namely, 13 years. Accordingly, the offender would have to serve a minimum of 13 years, less the period he had spent in custody on remand.
