The Case

Sentence Length of sentence. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held as unduly lenient, a sentence of six years' imprisonment imposed for an offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, where the offender had shot his half-sister's partner in the buttock at close range following an argument and he had pleaded guilty to other serious offences. The sentence was increased to 10 years' imprisonment.
