The Case

European Community Jurisdiction. The Court of Justice of the European Communities gave a preliminary ruling concerning the interpretation of art16 of Council Regulation (EC) 1348-2000 (on the service in the member states of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil or commercial matters), in the course of proceedings relating to the refusal of a court clerk to serve, in the absence of legal proceedings, addressees established in the United Kingdom or Ireland with a notarial act.
