The Case
Sentence Imprisonment. In the instant case, the sentence of seven-and-a-half years' imprisonment, the judge having taken a ten-year starting point before credit for the defendant's guilty plea to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, was not manifestly excessive where the defendant had recruited others to a sustained, prolonged and sophisticated campaign to intimidate a 15-year-old girl and her mother, the girl having made a truthful allegation against the defendant of sexual grooming.
