Sentence - Mandatory life sentence - Murder - Whole life order - Defendant killing own child after period of physical and sexual abuse - Whether judge erring in making whole life order.
Where the defendant who had no previous convictions, had pleaded guilty to, inter alia, the murder of his own baby, the imposition of a whole life order was not warranted, and was substituted with a minimum term of 30 years' imprisonment, despite the fact that he had for a number of weeks prior to the killing, meted out physical and sexual abuse of the most vile and grave kind upon her.
