The Case
A minimum term of 14 years would be set, less the time spent in custody on remand, in respect of an offender who had stabbed the deceased, the peacekeeper in the situation. A letter from the probation service inviting victim impact statements did not make clear that relative's views on what the tariff should be could not be taken into account by the court.
