Sentence - Imprisonment - Length of sentence - Cruelty to a person under 16 - Judge sentencing defendant to 12 months' imprisonment - Whether sentence manifestly excessive.
In the case of a defendant who had left her 14 month old in the care of her boyfriend who had physically abused him, the sentence of 12 months' imprisonment was manifestly excessive and would be quashed and substituted by a sentence of eight months' imprisonment to run concurrently.
