The Case
The defendant's total sentence of four years' detention, fines of 200 with seven days' detention in default and disqualification from driving for four years for multiple offences including driving and dishonesty offences and breach of a community rehabilitation order was wrong in principle. It had combined a fine with a substantial custodial sentence and it had been unlawful to impose consecutive periods of disqualification from driving.
