Margaret Chamberlain


Margaret is head of our Financial Services and Markets Department. She became a partner in 1991.

She was a member of the European Commission´s Securities Markets Expert Group (ESME) which advised the Commission on how EU securities directives work in practice and proposed changes where necessary. She is currently heavily involved in the work being done by the BVCA and the European Venture Capital Association on the proposed Alternative Investment Fund Manager Directive.

In April 2010 she was inducted into the BVCA Hall of Fame, recognising her long term contribution to the representation of the venture capital and private equity industry to government and regulators and her success in her own field.

Margaret advises on the law, practice and regulatory requirements relating to the financial services industry and the securities markets. Clients include banks, custodians, hedge, private equity and other fund managers, brokers and corporate finance firms. She advises on a wide range of matters and has particular expertise relating to trading, clearing, settlement, global custody and investment management, and the application of regulatory requirements to the activities of private equity and venture capital firms (including in relation to the establishment, management and marketing of funds).

She is also a regular speaker at conferences on a wide range of financial services issues and is an editor of the 'Financial Promotion' chapter in Butterworths Financial Services Handbook, a contributor to Tolley's Company Law and editor of the chapter on 'Discipline and Enforcement' in A Practitioner's Guide to the FSA Handbook published by City and Financial.
