James joined Forsters with the rest of the Gowling WLG London Private Client team in May 2017. He qualified in 2012 and trained at Westminster firm Lee Bolton Monier-Williams. He regularly lectures and writes articles.
His specialisms include the establishment and taxation of complex trusts and trust/company structures; interpretation/construction of trusts; foreign ownership structures for UK residential property (including advice on ATED, non-residence CGT and the anti-avoidance legislation); tax planning for non-domiciled individuals; pre-entry planning for individuals moving to the UK; and cross-border estate planning and Will drafting.
His practice has increasingly incorporated advice to private banks, trustees, companies and individuals on CRS and FATCA as well as local transparency initiatives such as the UK PSC register.
James has also advised charity trustees, acted as a family trustee and has experience advising executors and landed estate clients in the UK. He is also actively involved in his firm's tech sector.
