Alan is a qualified Barrister, working for the past 6 years in the E-Commerce industry as the Senior Compliance and Policy Manager for Donuts Inc, the leading new gTLD Registry Operator for 241 new Top Level Domains (TLDs - Domain Name Endings - e.g. .News, .Live, .Email & .Lawyer.).  Alan has a particular passion for user safety in the online environment, and is the abuse point of contact for Donuts' 241 TLDs.

Alan has a background in data protection and is the current data protection contact for Donuts Inc. He is also a registry operators nominated member for the Expedited Policy Development Process on the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data (ePDP) - and is one of 33 people setting industry policy for compliance with global data protection requirements, including, in particular, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Alongside this important PDP, Alan also continues to be involved with ICANN policy work on areas such as Rights Protection Mechanisms, anti-abuse measures, and generally ensuring the ongoing evolution of the domain industry.

Alan is a co-author of the DNS Abuse framework (a joint drafting effort with 10 other registry and registrar operators) and has also co-founded a DNS industry effort to align processes for tackling Child Sexual Abuse Material in the DNS.
