Ian is an experienced nuclear lawyer and advises sponsors, developers, technology vendors, operators, insurers, Government departments, funders and contractors on all aspects of nuclear law, nuclear new build and other nuclear projects in the UK and abroad. His experience includes:
' Hinkley Point C: Deputy General Counsel of the Hinkley Point C project from 2012 ' 2015 advising on all aspects of the project including the GDA process, environmental consenting, planning, nuclear site licensing, construction contracts, financing and legal challenges.
' Moorside: advised on the suite of contracts relating to the transfer of land from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to NuGeneration to enable development of the Moorside new nuclear project.
' Horizon: advising on the suite of contracts relating to the transfer of land from the Magnox Electric to Horizon to enable development of the Wylfa new nuclear project, including the delicensing and de-designation of part of the existing nuclear site.
' Small Modular Reactors: advising Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in relation to its plans to facilitate the demonstration of a number of SMR designs on its Chalk River site in Ontario, Canada.
' New nuclear state in the Middle East: part of the team which drafted the nuclear framework legislation and nuclear liability law.
' Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited: advising in relation to its reinsurance of nuclear third party liability risk for Electrabel in Belgium.
' Nuclear regulator: Advising the nuclear regulator in a new nuclear state in relation to the requirements of international nuclear law and the drafting of nuclear regulations.
