Laura Stephenson

Laura became a member of 2 Hare Court in March 2015, following the successful completion of her third six pupillage. Before joining chambers Laura undertook a 12 month pupillage at the Crown Prosecution Service. Laura is experienced in Magistrates' and Youth Court work at all levels of seriousness. She is developing a busy Crown Court practice and her experience covers offences of fraud, robbery, sexual assault, actual bodily harm and affray. Laura defends nurses in substantive hearings before the Conduct and Competence Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She has dealt with cases involving charges of misconduct, including alleged safeguarding failures. She also has experience matters brought before the NMC Investigative Committee and Registration Appeals. Laura is currently instructed by an Interested Party to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry as junior disclosure counsel. The Inquiry is investigating the abuse of children in Jersey's care system over several decades. The hearings began in April 2014 and are ongoing. As a third six pupil Laura spent several months working alongside the solicitor team representing one of the Interested Persons at the Hillsborough Inquests. Laura has extensive court experience in road traffic matters, including trials and submissions of exceptional hardship in mitigation. She regularly advises companies and individuals on driving matters.
