Janys M Scott, QC

Janys Scott QC is a family law specialist and expert in education law.

Educated at Newnham College, Cambridge, she practiced as a solicitor in both England and Scotland before entering the Scottish bar in 1992. She has served as a Convenor of the Scottish Child Law Centre (1992-1997), Stepfamily Scotland (1998-2002) and the Scottish Legal Group of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (2004-2010). Mrs Scott was appointed a part-time sheriff in 2005 and took silk in 2007. She held the post of Director of Murray Stable from 2006 until 2010.

Her academic appointments include Lecturer at Sulaimaniyah, Iraq (1976-1978), Honorary Lecturer at Dundee University (1989-1994), Visiting Bye-Fellow at Newnham College, Cambridge (2002) and Honorary Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University's Department of Psychology (1999-present). In addition Mrs Scott is author of numerous texts including Education Law in Scotland (2003, W Green) and the Education reissue title within the Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia. She is editor of Court of Session Practice (Family section) (Tottel) and Scottish Family Law Service (Education section) (Butterworths).

Janys Scott QC is patron of the Scottish Child Law Centre and Chairman of the Friends of Petra School trust supporting education in Zimbabwe.
