Vicki Salmon is a partner in IP Asset LLP, having joined in January 2009 from the international law firm Eversheds LLP.
Vicki is one of a handful of dual-qualified solicitors and patent attorneys in the UK. She is also a patent attorney litigator and a European Trade Mark & Design Attorney. She has over 25 years experience of working in this field. A biochemist by training, she advises clients on a wide range of intellectual property issues and technologies, from obtaining patent, trade mark and design protection through to transactions involving IP rights, commercialisation and enforcement. She also has carries out due diligence in relation to IP and advises on IP in the context of corporate transactions.
Vicki is a member of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and chairs its Litigation Committee, as well as sitting on a number of other committees. She has recently been involved in lobbying on behalf of CIPA for improvements in the draft European legislation to establish a Unified Patents Court and a Unitary Patent.
She is a contributor to practitioner-level patent text books: The Modern of Law of Patents (the chapter on threats and declarations of non-infringement) and the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act 1977 (the sections relating to inventorship, ownership of patents and inventions).
Vicki speaks at and chairs seminars on IP topics – arranging litigation seminars for CIPA and leading the new CIPA Basic Skills and PCC Litigation courses. She speaks at all levels from giving a half-day introductory IP seminar to biomedical engineering undergraduates at UCL to practitioner level talks. She has spoken at IP seminars in the US, Canada, Hungary, Korea, Poland and Qatar.
