Kate Newman


Kate Newman is a Partner in the Competition, EU and Regulatory Group of Eversheds Sutherland, having 16 years of experience in the competition field.

Kate advises across a wide spectrum of EU and UK competition law matters including the application of competition law to strategic collaborations, commercial strategies, trade practices and agreements; abuse of dominance; mergers and acquisitions; joint ventures and defending companies who are the subject of investigation by the competition authorities.

Kate works with clients in a number of sectors, including energy, water and diversified industrials and has particular expertise in advising on competition issues in the regulated sectors. Her experience includes

  • advising one of the main parties in the Competition & Markets Authority's energy market investigation;
  • advising a consortium on the competition issues arising from bidding in Round 3 of the UK offshore Wind Programme;
  • advising a number of clients in the water sector on strategic competition issues associated with the forthcoming deregulation of the non-household retail market for water and wastewater services; and
  • advising a statutory water and sewage undertaker on competition issues arising out of the transfer of private sewers into public ownership

Kate is a regular speaker on competition law topics.
