His Honour Judge Abbas Mithani, QC (Hon), LLM, Circuit Judge, Honorary Professor of Law at Birmingham University and Visiting Professor of Law at Newcastle and Kingston Universities

His Honour Judge Abbas Mithani QC is a Circuit Judge.
He was made QC, honoris causa in March 2009 in recognition of his substantial contribution to the development of Insolvency, Company and Succession Law in England and Wales and for his academic work.
Judge Mithani is closely involved with several UK Universities reflecting his position as the leading authority on company and insolvency law in the UK. He is an Honorary Professor of Law at Birmingham University and Visiting Professor of Law at Newcastle and Kingston Universities.
Judge Mithani has written numerous articles on commercial litigation, insolvency, directors' duties and succession law. In 1994, he wrote "Islamic Wills" explaining the inter-action of English Succession Law with the principles of the Shia Muslim Law of Inheritance. Judge Mithani is the general editor of the leading work on directors' disqualification (published in three loose-leaf volumes by LexisNexis) entitled Mithani: Directors' Disqualification. He has also contributed to a number of other LexisNexis practitioner-works, among them:
  • the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents on Personal Insolvency, Company Insolvency, Companies and Wills and Administration;
  • Atkin's Court Forms on Personal Insolvency and Partnership Insolvency;
  • and
  • Kelly's Draftsman.
He has also contributed to the 'Brown Book', published by Jordans, a practitioner-work on Civil Procedure.
In 2003, Judge Mithani was awarded the first ever 'Asian Jewel Award for Legal Excellence' for Central Britain and in March 2009, he was awarded the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by the Society of Asian Lawyers.
