Biography

Iain G. Mitchell QC has an extensive civil practice in both England & Wales and Scotland. He served as a Temporary Sheriff from 1992 to 1997 and is a member of the Scottish Council for International Arbitration, and an accredited Mediator.

He is ranked in Chambers Directory for IT Law, IP Law and Public Procurement, and in The Legal 500 for Commercial Litigation, for Intellectual Property, and for Information Technology and Media, IT and IP Law. He is the Chair of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) Working Party on Surveillance and serves on the IT Committee of the CCBE. He is a member of the Bar Council's IT panel and data protection subgroup. He is Chairman of the Scottish Society for Computers and Law and an honorary lecturer at the Institut für Informations-, Telekommunikations- und Medienrecht at Münster University. 

Significant cases include Moncrieff v Jamieson [2007] 1 WLR 2620 (easement of parking); Clarke v Fennoscandia 2008 SC (HL) 122 (enforcement of foreign judgments); Grant Estates Ltd v Royal Bank of Scotland [2012] CSOH 133 (misselling of complex financial instruments); and Gray v MacNeil's Executors 2017 SLT (Sh Ct) 83 (verbal agreement regarding occupation of property).
