Hilary Meredith

Biography

Hilary Meredith is a solicitor, lobbyist and campaigner best known for her work on behalf of the UK armed forces, their families and military veterans, providing a voice to protect their welfare.

Hilary started her legal career in 1982 and rose to become the youngest ever managing partner of a 300-strong Manchester city centre law firm at the age of 29. In 2003, she set up her own niche firm, Hilary Meredith Solicitors, specialising in legal help and assistance to the armed forces and their families.

Throughout her 35-year legal career, Hilary has successfully challenged the status quo - fighting for the rights of military service personnel, their families and military veterans and striving to achieve equality for women in the law. She has also acted in a range of precedent setting cases, worked closely with Parliamentary Inquiries and Government Ministers and successfully campaigned for changes in the law.

In 2018, Hilary was named as the most inspirational female solicitor in the UK.
The award came at the Inspirational Women in Law Awards run by First 100 Years, a ground-breaking project, supported by the Law Society and the Bar Council, charting the journey of women in law since 1919.

In addition to her role as Chair of Hilary Meredith Solicitors, Hilaryâ??s other appointments include Visiting Professor of Law and Veteransâ?? Affairs at the University of Chester, Chair of the Royal British Legion Solicitors Group and Trustee of Broughton House, the home for ex-servicemen and women.

In 2019, Hilary received the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Manchester Legal Awards.
