Terry McGuinness


Terry specialises in coronial law, civil actions against the police and criminal law. His criminal practice encompasses the full range of criminal offences including murder. He is frequently instructed to represent children and young people charged with serious offences.

Terry is a co-author of The Confiscation Manual. In 2015-16 he was a senior researcher at the House of Commons Library and the author of a number of its briefing papers including those on the Policing and Crime Bill, police complaints reform and the Criminal Cases Review Commission. He has been a guest lecturer at King’s College London and at the Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. Before coming to the Bar Terry worked as director of a youth mentoring charity in Belfast.
