Maura McGowan QC

Biography

Maura McGowan QC is Chairman of the Bar for 2013.

She practises from 2 Bedford Row in London and Lincoln House Chambers in Manchester. She has extensive experience in all areas of crime; most notably murder, drugs, violent and sexual assault and child abuse. She also appears in serious and complex fraud cases and public inquiries.

A Deputy High Court Judge since 2010 and a Recorder since 1996, she is an elected member of the Bar Council (previously as Vice-Chairman of the Professional Practice Committee and a long-standing member of the Law Reform Committee). She was also the Director of Education and Training for the South Eastern Circuit and a serving committee member of the Criminal Bar Association. She is a Bencher of Middle Temple and an advocacy trainer.

She has also been Called to the Irish Bar and Northern Irish Bar.
