Joanne Major

Joanne Major is the founder and principal solicitor at Major Family Law, a specialist family law practice in the north-east of England. Prior to setting up her own successful niche family law practice, Joanne was head of the family law department at Newcastle upon Tyne city-centre firm, Watson Burton LLP.

She is the only family lawyer to have been commended in the Legal 500 north-east leading individuals in recent years and is also named as a leading expert in the 2013 edition of the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession.

Joanne has a wide breadth of experience in all areas of family law. She has particular expertise in the financial aspects of divorce, the arrangements for children following the breakdown of a relationship and international family law. She is committed to ADR, is a member of Resolution and is a trained collaborative lawyer.

Joanne established Major Family Law in 2009 out of a belief that, at a time when many large law firms were side-lining their family departments, there was a need for a more personal, specialist and focused approach to family law. The 'fledgling' firm has been given a top-tier ranking in the Legal 500 for the last two years.

Joanne has built her practice to support the growing number of instructions taken by the firm. She has created a strong and striking brand for Major Family Law and through her pioneering use of social media, particularly Twitter, has been able to network with and extend Major Family Law's reputation far beyond the region. She is a regular contributor to legal and news publications.
