Prof Vivienne Harpwood
Vivienne Harpwood is Course Director for the LLM (Legal Aspects of Medical Practice) degree which was established in 1987. She lectures and publishes widely in the fields of tort and medical law, and is an editor of Butterworth's Medico-Legal Reports and the journal Medical Law International.
Her main interests are general aspects of the law of tort, clinical negligence and the institutional framework of healthcare. Among her publications are the books "Legal Issues in Obstetrics", "Medical Negligence and Clinical Risk" and "Principles of Tort Law".
Vivienne served on the Government's NHS Complaints Review Committee which reported in 1994, and is a member of the Silicone Gel Breast Implant Review Group. She has also contributed to the work of several ethics committees established for the conduct of clincial trials.
For many years she has lectured to members of the healthcare professions in the UK and overseas. She is a practising barrister and advises on cases involving personal injuries and medical law.
