Dame Mary Arden DBE

Biography

Read law at Cambridge and Harvard. She was called to the Bar in 1971 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1986. At the Bar she specialised in company law. In 1993 she was appointed a Justice of the High Court and assigned to the Chancery Division. From I January 1996 to 31 January 1999 she was Chairman of the Law Commission. In October 2000 she was appointed a Lady Justice of Appeal.

From 1993 to 2000, she was a member of the Financial Law Panel. She is a member of the Law Society’s Company Law Committee. She was a member of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Steering Group for the Company Law Review which presented its final report in July 2001. She is a contributor to Buckley on the Companies Acts, Special Bulletin, The Companies Act 1989.
